What Am I?

Cornezuelo Extra Virgin Olive Oil  & Arbequina Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Most Olive Oils, even Extra Virgin Olive Oils are a blend of multiple varieties of Olives.  These are each made with one cultivar which is unusual and really rather nice.  It means that you can appreciate the individual qualities of one olive.

Arbequina is characterised with a soft, slightly fruity profile with notes of tomato, apple and even banana on the nose.  It highlights the sweet over the spicy with a light level of bitterness.

The Cornezuelo olives are picked by hand, transported in small crates to prevent bruising and are pressed directly. The oil is velvety and has flavours like mint, fig, apple and tomato. This lightly peppery oil (with a little bitterness), is born for salads.

This superb oil comes from the same estate as our House Oil: Naturvie in Extremadura in the SW corner of Spain near the border with Portugal.  Naturvie is an old estate brought back to life by a very old friend and colleague, Fernando Sanchez Mohino y Arias whose family have owned it for many generations.  Fernando has breathed new life into the place, planting many new trees of different varieties and really experimenting with different styles and blends of oils.  He is generally regarded as one of the best olive oil producers not just in Spain but across all olive growing countries.

Just so as you know, to make just one litre of top flight extra virgin takes around 5kg of olives which is around 1000 individual olives so in a 500ml bottle you have the output of 500 olives.
